Red Ornament

Red Ornament on Cake Central

Here is my first ornament. It is a practice one for two upcoming events. I had trouble with the bottom layer of the cake sagging tonight. That's never happened for my ball cakes. I'm also having trouble getting the fondant smooth near the bottom. Boards on future cakes will look better than upside down foil and will have messages piped on them. Constructive criticism most welcome this evening. Thanks. Edited to say..Lethal Choc. cake with Peppermint BC (crushed candy canes) MMMMM!

critique subgroup member: nice job! the top looks so smooth, can see a bit of pleats toward bottom, wonder if you could have used a bit of fondant and made holly leaves and berries to cover spots, then again, might have cluttered and taken away from snowflakes?? I think the ornament hanger could have been a bit bigger to stay in proportion.

Critique Subgroup Member: Welcome aboard our group. Very nice for your practice. I would still use pound cakes for these types of shapes. Less problems. When piping, have a little damp paintbrush close b to clean up edges, drips and string alongs to get a clean look. And yes your recipe sounds deadly.

Critique group member: Very pretty! I love the color of red and the snowflakes look prefect! The only things I would suggest id to make the hanger bigger and I would have done some snowflakes at the top and bottom that looked like they went around and maybe half showed that way is looks round and the design does not just end.

Critique Subgroup Member ~ Good job on your first try. I just checked out your most recent ornament cakes and must say you have greatly improved. That's what I like about our group and how we can learn from each other's comments. I also like the top of your newest cakes over this one.
