Oh, that's beatiful! How did you make the intricate details on the black decorations? I'm always so impressed with artists like yourself who do things so neatly! It is so pretty.

i have to second on PuffMamaT's question , how did u make those designs?8O piping painting..fondant cutouts maybe? or did u do chocolates in that shape i've seen that in places like martha stuart you buy a pack of chocolate molds and after covering the cake in fondat attach the chocolates on top of the fondant...very very good job!

i held the stencil in place and spread the icing over it with a spatula. then i went over it with a plastic scraper (like you would use in painting or wallpapering) to remove as much excess icing as possible. it worked well on the top flat surface, but i got into trouble on the sides. i wasn't able to remove as much icing and it was a little "globby" (don't think that's a work is it?). hope that explanation made some sense to you.

thanks for your comments. the designs were done with a stencil and royal icing. had never tried to stencil onto the cake before--had done it on the board . it was a little tricky, i thought, to get the sides to look good. thus, the ribbon around the base of the cake!

I love the design. do you just put the stencil on the cake and pipe the icing in and then smooth over or is it something else?
