I already had a few pairs of wings I had made for another project using directions from MarthaStewart.com (search for "Flying Place Cards"). Each wing is basically constructed of a bent bamboo skewer and black tissue paper. Since the skewer has a pointed end, you can stick the wings into almost anything. But you could also make some edible wings using skewers and gum paste, I'd imagine.
Wow! Thanks for all the compliments, guys! To answer a few questions: the black and orange border is actually made of store-bought Hershey's Kissables (mini kisses with a candy coating) that I simply lined up along the edge. *Very* easy. As for the cake, I used a packaged mix (Betty Crocker Devil's Food) and poured it into three 8-inch disposable aluminum pans. I leveled the bottom two layers but kept the top one rounded to give it the shape it has.
One of my favorite halloween cakes I seen here. Can you tell me what the orange shapes are on the bottom. I cant' stop looking at this cute cake. I want to make it. 8O
