Tony's Monkey Cake

Tony's Monkey Cake on Cake Central

I just finished my nephew's monkey cake. He's always been fascinated with monkeys. Even though he's a freshman in high school, his grandmother and I thought the cake would be most appropriate. The monkey cake is made out of white sour cream cake with chocolate buttercream. I used Wilton's black tube icing for the outline, because I didn't want to make the black icing. Any comments on how to improve it would be appreciated. I would like to thank Cambo for her inspiration for this cake.

I used the smallest oval pan for the lower part of his face. I used a 6-inch for the head, and two 4-inch layers for the ears. I carved some of the cake away so the ears and top half of the face would fit. I used the star tip for the fur. I didn't want to color the icing black so I used the Wilton's black tube icing. The bananas were clipart from the Internet. I hope this helps.
