Thanks for your kind comments. I actually was not that happy withthe outcome lst week as the quality of the fondant I have been using lately has been shocking to say the last. I also think that change of season and drier air has played a big part. Saving grace is that it looked like elephant skin in the end!!! I used the 3D teddy bear mould and just cut off the ears (makes a cute bunny too).

The front legs are extra pieces of cake glued on with bc. I then iced in bc and just filled inthe gaps where the arms where to make it more or less even. Covered it in fondant and made the ears and trunk and stuck them in with toothpicks and petal glue.

This is awsome. We are our own worst critic aren't we? I've never used petal glue before. What is it? Is that what makes it shiny around the trunk? So cute, nice job.

I think he is just too adorable. I have loved elephants for as long as I can remember and think they are the cutest things. I think you did a fantastic job. Do you have any trouble using fondant directly over buttercream? I want to do that and am hoping it does not make the fondant so soft that it sags or anything.

I have no idea what the petal glue is made from - I just buy it pre-prepared and it works well sticking all sorts of fondant and gumpaste things together. As the name suggests it is meant for roses and flowers. Will do some research and let you know. You could use royal icing to the same effect. Am so blown away by the awesome comments - my client was apparently vitually in tears she was so happy with the cake!! We are our own worst critics!!!!!!

dixiepixie0634 - using fondant over buttrcream is not problem at all. Just don't roll your fondant too thin. Having the butterream underneath smooths out the bumps (ie arms) and dips so the fondant covers it easily.
