Oh wow. I've never heard of this before. That's neat. I would be afraid I'd lose it in the cake...?
Did you make sure that everything you used to make the Royal Icing was absouletly grease free before making it?
Crisco is Veg. Shortening. It's a solid not an oil.

I am not sure I understood this part of it... 7. When you have finished coloring in your graphic, smooth the back while gently pushing without blending your colors underneath. This will settle your frosting into the grooves and create a smooth finished project.How do you flip it over to smooth it out without messing up your work? Are you smoothing it on the wax paper or the icing?
I always use the Wilton Candy Foils. They work really well for me.
