A sil pat is a non stick mat that is great for working with fondant and gumpaste. Also used for baking!

stephanie214 Posted 25 Oct 2005 , 11:36pm

Thanks MrsMissey for the picture...guess I need to get one, been using my dough disc when making flowers.

JustJaimeLyn Posted 26 Oct 2005 , 2:19am

Hey thanks for the link. I guess I'll go ahead and pick up two of them cause you can't beat the price!

finally928 Posted 26 Oct 2005 , 3:23am

I have been looking at these, but am not sure -- how does having a Silpat or a Silicone wonder help with fondant?? I currently roll out my fondant on my Wilton Cake Dividing Wheel.

I am hesitant to spend a lot of money on this if I am not sure exactly how it will benefit me! Any help is appreciated!!

Thanks!
Jay

I have one that was given as a christmas gift. I have never used it because I was not sure how or what it was for. You learn something every day. MC

You can bake on these?? icon_confused.gif Wow, with the parchment paper I go through making cookies, this would definitely be a deal.

Hi!

Just an FYI on these...I own 6. They are great not only for fondant/gumpaste but they are great for baking cookies. They prevent burning under the cookies. They come out nice and crisp.

Amazon also has a deal similar to silpat called Matfer Exopat Nonstick Baking/Roasting Sheet...exactly the same product. Currently they are $9.99 each and when you spend $25 you can get free shipping. I figured if you are nervous about spending the x-tra $$ this is an inexpensive way to try them.

Here's the link. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005AXJ9/qid=1130346190/sr=8-3/ref=pd_bbs_3/002-2363707-8327257?v=glance&s=kitchen&n=507846

Hope it helps!
