Hey there everyone!!! My mom, grandmother and three brothers all have their birthdays this week (one day right after the other!) and so I'm making a cake for their birthday... Since they're all really into sushi, I was thinking of making a bunch of little cakes and decorating them to look like sushi!... I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how or what to use to make it all look realistic... I dont know what types of frostings/etc... to use for the right look...If anyone can help I'd REALLY appreciate it!! Thanks so much!!!

I've seen some mini cakes done as different sorts of sushi/raw fish. One that I found quickly is this one:

Looks like they used coconut as the rice and fruit roll ups as the seaweed and ginger.
I'm sure you could mold some marzipan into whatever shape you wanted to as well
Mike of Mike's Amazing Cakes used white jimmies as the rice...I made some easy ones using twinkies, fruit leather (green fruit roll-ups) and diced fruit streamers (Kellogs). They're in my photos...
Not exactly what you were asking for but, here is a really cute animated movie showing how to make a big sushi cake:

I'm a little late, sorry I missed it! I have sushi cakes in my photos, it was my entry for the Food Cake Contest. I had absolutely no idea what sushi really looks like (I've never eaten any) so I got a few pictures from the internet.
The rollup part is black MMF.
Hope you will post photos of yours! Janice
I LOVE that movie! Especially the part where the cake is perfectly masked in 3 strokes!!! hahahaha
