It might even be on here somewhere and quite possibly a dumb question as well. But out of curiosity, what is the difference between 3D and sculpted cakes? Or are the terms interchangeable depending on the person? Like a pirate ship that is sculpted out of cake and is standing alone or on top of another cake. Would it be 3D or would it be sculpted? What are the determining factors then?

To me, your example is a combinatin of both terms.  I also think size has a lot to do with it.  If the ship is all there is to the 'order' it's sculpted.  If the ship is more on the small size on top of a 'sheet' or similar then it is 3-d.
