I've been reading these forums for a while and finally got round to registering. This is my first post - be gentle with me!
I'm sure this has been discussed a hundred times already, so apologies for asking again. I'm looking for some help with fondant cracking / elephant skin. I've read lots about adding shortening to the fondant and want to try this, but my question is how much shortening to add to the fondant? Is there a ratio?

Of course it is going to depend on how much fondant you have but generally just about a lg marble size to a 2# ball should do it. What many do is very lightly coat the outside of a handfull, kneaded in &/or lightly coat the rolling surface - then take a paper towel and lighgtly wipe it .
