Any Thoughts On Why This Happened?

I used Indydebi's buttercream recipe.
Not sure why the roses fell off the sides.
Thanks for any suggestions
Was your crumb coat crusted when you added the roses? Are you certain you touched the tip to the crumb coat when swirling? If the buttercream had crusted, the roses would be just resting on the side until gravity took over. Any air pockets in the cake (frozen cake?) that would have needed to escape?

Crumb coat needs to be tacky/sticky in order for the swirls/roses to cling to. You don't need to fridge before you start your swirls. Crumb coat and start swirling, so they stick to the frosting :)
Thanks! I don't know that I completely touched all the way with the tip when swirling. I ended up just having to smooth the sides the best I could.
Next time I won't put it in the fridge. I haven't made a cake in about 3 years and when I did, I usually used fondant and not buttercream.
I'll experiment again!
Moisture can also be the answer. It looks like when you get an air bubble under the buttercream frosting. My aunt had that happen to one side of her cake as well... This design looks so easy and pretty but it's really stressful! I made one like this but my icing was too soft (SMBC) and it began to slide off the cake leaving tons of holes! I smoothed the sides it and made a different design...
