I just bought Sweetex from local baking supply. It states 122916Q3 07:33. Is it expiration date or production date?

It is 50 lbs bag. I just want to use it for decorating hobby. Thank you.

I have never bought it so I really can not answer but many here use sweetex and should be able to answer you on this.  I am hoping for your sake that it is still good!!! And if the date they made it how long will it still be good from 12-29-2016? Wow, 50 pounds would last me way too long since I only do as a hobby.

Just a guess but......with that 07:33 I would say it is a production date.

I agree with @kakeladi ‍. Companies use their own codes; I'm guessing that Q3 is probably the production line. Store the box/bag tightly closed, in a cool location, and be careful not to contaminate the shortening (only use clean utensils, etc.). It should last a very long time. Very.

Hi. If it does not state something like best-by-date, it sounds like it could be a production identifier.

You could always call them and ask.

Best wishes!!!!

Thank you MimiFix and TC123. I asked already. It was production date.
