Hi,

I'm making my first wedding cake (for family) & the bottom tier is 12" round. Normally I'd place my celebration cakes on a board a few inches bigger, however, I think the cake stand the cake will be placed on is 14" & I'm struggling to find a larger stand.

How do people get round this? Will the cake look ok on a 14" board then placed on the 14" stand? Any bigger a board & there'll obviously be an overhang which I think will look worse than the board being smaller than normal.

There wont be any sort of decoration on the board (except covered in fondant) & lace around the bottom tier.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is nothing wrong w/a cake extending beyone the stand by a couple of inches.   You don't want to put a 16" round cake on a 12" stand but using a 14" board under a 12" cake which gones on a 12" stand is no problem at all.
