Anyone have any tricks or ingredients they add or substitute to the batter to make cake mix cakes taste like scratch?
One simple way to improve the taste of yellow cake is to use melted real butter instead of oil, whole milk instead of water, and add an extra teaspoon of vanilla.
I've also tried the Durable Cake for 3D and Wedding Cakes recipe on this site and it is very tasty. I think it rivals a good scratch cake.
I agree with everything HollyPJ suggested. I also add another egg ( total 4 ) a cup of sourcream, and a box of instant pudding. Very tasty!
