naw -- just hold the tip of a small spatula or bread knife on there and twirl the turntable

easy peasy

My tip in doing these cakes to make them look professional and not look sloppy (I've seen some disasters) is to ice your cake like normal, get it nice and smooth, then use your spatula (whichever size) and go around evenly!
