Okay, im at a loss. I will be making a wedding cake. The bride absolutely hates fondant. She wants her wedding cake to be gray but she wants chocolate frosting..... She does not want any fondant or modeling chocolate anywhere on the cake. I don't know what to do here. What should I suggest?
You could do white chocolate buttercream colored gray. But... sometimes we have to tell our clients that it isn't possible. I have customers often that bring in a picture of a cake covered in fondant with fondant decorations and they tell me they don't want fondant. I tell them you can not make that cake without fondant. I would rather be upfront and honest with a customer than to take an order that is going to be a sure failure and have the customer unhappy with the finished product. Just my 2 cents. Good luck !!
I didn't think of suggesting white chocolate! Maybe she will go for that! I just wanted to see if anyone had a suggestion before I tell her it went be possible. Thank you!
I would say tell her you can do chocolate filling and/or cake but if she wants actual chocolate frosting it's not possible to do so if it's grey in color.
Take a look at this cake in the link below. The client wanted chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling AND frosting. I made the 8" round middle tier with chocolate cake, dark chocolate ganache, then covered the ganache with the white buttercream.
You could do the same thing, but just cover the chocolate frosting/ganache with grey buttercream.
