Hello!
I have a wedding cake next week. And the bride wants it to be a shiny champagne color. The cake is buttercream. I have gold airbrush paint but she doesn't want it that deep of a gold, she wanted a very light gold or champagne can anyone help me figure out how to do this? I was wondering if I should just use americolor's pearlized for airbrush? Should I use gold gel color to color the frosting and then go over it with the pearlized?
Painting buttercream metallic won't work very well, the buttercream will absorb the metallic in a different way than fondant will. Plus, the color will need to be put on pretty thick and it's going to taste nasty.
I have airbrushed buttercream cakes gold before. And they turned out fine. I'm just not sure how to achieve this pale gold color. Any input on that would be helpful..
This is the color I get with amc gold sheen, I'd like to tone it down

I was thinking I could add or go over it with pearl. Or maybe tint the frosting with gold gel color and go over it with pearl.
Okay so,I tweeted the same question to Pastry Chef Stella Parks and she suggested mixing 2:1 gold and pearl luster dusts and brushing onto cold buttercream with a large soft brush. Gonna try this later!
I ended up mixing luster dust , 1 gold, 1 white with almond extract and used a pastry brush & painted the cold cakes after each tier dried and stacked & cold, I went back over it with dry luster dust and a very soft brush [postimage id="5342" thumb="900"]
