Hi, I got a request to make this cake with buttercream icing, not fondant. I want to know if I could simply paint the lines/arrows using luster dust and alcohol (would lemon extract suffice) on SMBC or do I need to use a different icing? In the picture, it looks like the cake is covered in buttercream and not fondant. Please help![postimage id="4996" thumb="900"]

If you use buttercream, make sure it is a crusting recipe.  Let it crust really well, at least several hours, and then use vodka with your luster dust. Just don't use any medium with acid.  Personally, I would feel safer with vodka.  It evaporates really quickly.  Good luck!

Since recipes of b'cream can differ soooo much I suggest you do some practice on the icing you intend to use on the cake.   Just spread some on wax paper and pain using the different mixtures of luster dust.  It would be nice if you report back here so other who are considering something similar will benefit from your post :)
