Hi! So im making a cake for my nieces birthday but i live in new york and shes in north carolina (10+ hour drive). Were driving down wednesday night and the partys saturday. I could bake there but its gonna be a pain to bring everything with me, id much rather just have to decorate the cake there. Any suggestions on how to travel with baked cakes?!

Freeze them. I drove from Texas to California with 2 cakes with no problem. One was buttercream and one was fondant.

Just get them to whatever stage you want them for traveling (crumb coated/ frosting/ fondant/ fully decorated) box, double-wrap with plastic wrap and freeze.

Carry them in an ice chest to keep frozen or in an air-conditioned vehicle and let them thaw on the way. If frozen, you'll need to let them set out for 8-10 hours STILL WRAPPED to thaw. That way any condensation is on the wrapping and not the cake. They'll be fine.

Good luck.
