It's a long weekend for us here in Canada with yesterday being Canada Day.  We got together with a couple of friends so I made a little cake for dessert.  It was somewhat last minute, room for improvement, but I was still happy with it and they though it was cool.  I had intended to make a stencil to do the plaid pattern but with time running out I free handed it.  I'm still getting used to my airbrush so it definitely could be better.  The surprise inside flag worked well but the stripes on the sides should have been taller.  I know what to change for another time....

Happy (belated) Canada Day to all the Canucks and Happy 4th of July to those of you in the US!!!

made chocolate & vanilla and vanilla cupcakes as well as a chai sponge for our local animal shelter open day - it's where my long haired akita goes on days I have to go into the office.  So pleased with my new chocolate moulds!

@kstevens Happy Canada day I am in awe of the flag inside.

Love the paw cupcakes.

I baked a cake for next weekend last night and one of the layers broke. Debating on frosting it or making cake balls. It is for my DIL's sisters baby shower. I am working on a sun topper. I will post a picture below. Please give me honest feedback. I promised I put my big girl panties on this morning.

I haven't attached the sun rays and they are individual. Part of me thinks they are to small. I am not sure if I should just roll out a larger circle and cut them out. My DIL thinks it is cute. So I could leave, but I really want it to be special. Posting picture below.

it's adorable --

could use some simple eyes -- like just with a marker or black fondant -- just little ovals or round flat eyes --

nothing wrong with the rays

I like it too.  It could go either way - bigger rays or not.    This way it has a cutesy look.

[postimage id="4504" thumb="900"]Red White and Roar. Tricolor inside as well. Very lightly sculpted. Buttercream. Butter-vanilla cake with pineapple creamcheese filling.  I did it sloppy way (no design tracing before piping, for instanse) bu i still like it.

@Marian64 ‍ The sun is adorable! It would look really cute with sun glasses too.

@LelekBolek ‍ That is amazing! I like all the different tips you used and the effects they created.

@hep275 ‍ Paws are super cute!

No projects for me this weekend either but I'm going to get out my fondant cutters later this afternoon and play with them. Just some simple flowers and leaves, and the FMM easiest rose cutter. I'll probably post photos later.

I love all the cakes this week so far!

Thanks for the suggestions going to leave the rays alone. @Pastrybaglady ‍ I may see if I can do the sunglasses.

@LelekBolek ‍ love the tiger. That buttercream filling sounds yummy.

@catlharper ‍ did you see that last week's FNCC was still going yesterday before you started this one! Impressive!

@Jinkies ‍, @LelekBolek ‍, @-K8memphis ‍, and @Marian64 ‍ thanks for the comments on my cake :-)   The surprise inside cakes are always fun to do and get lots of ooohs and ahhhhs.

@hep275 ‍I really like those paw print chocolate molds. As an owner of three dogs, two of which are rescues, I think it's great that you did the cupcakes for your local shelter.

@Marian64 ‍I'm a bit late posting but I think the shorter rays on your sun give it a cute look.  I look forward to seeing the finished cake.

@LelekBolek ‍your tiger is stunning!  I love it!  So eye catching.

Here's the flowers I did this afternoon:

For the centers of the daisies I used some chocolate chips, white sixlets and sugar pearls. Just trying out some different things. I think I like the ivory roses best, and I brushed some red food coloring onto the edges on two of them.

All I can say is WOW. The cakes are fabulous.  Needed to take a break from making flowers so went shopping for needed supplies for my cake.  Back at it tomorrow. Monday morning I will be making cupcakes for the airmen working the base entrance gates here at our base. I do this for all the holidays to let them I appreciate them. I'm a proud military brat and spouse so I know they often have to miss out on things when on duty.

@Dar917 ‍ I like those days I can just make flowers for fun.

@kstevens ‍ Belated Happy Canada Day.

Everyone have a Happy 4th

Hey everyone!

Busy Canada Day weekend for me!

I was so excited for this Ice Cream party order! I made a cake and some matching cake pops for the client. These cake pops we're probably the easiest I've ever done!

Also made a Shopkins birthday cake and matching sugar cookies.

The shopkins characters were made out of fondant.

Wow! Everyone! I just love everything! I've been SO busy between full time work and our friend being here from AZ. I've been baking and to prove to you all that I'm a normal person I have to admit that, after baking two layers, I suspected that I forgot to add the oil to the recipe....so now I'm rebaking! UGH! I've done that with the sugar before too. SIGH. So that's how I'll be spending my night tonight after work...rebaking and making fondant.

@kstevens ‍ LOVE your Canada cake! I have done the same thing with the American flag but my outside didn't look nearly so pretty!

@LelekBolek ‍ your tiger cake is amazing! It may well be my favorite of the week! What a lot of work to make him into such a spectacular sight.

@hep275 ‍ SO cute! What are "chai" cupcakes?

@Dar917 ‍ As I'm still working out the design of the cake I'm decorating tomorrow for my work birthdays I think, I, too will be playing with flower making! I love your roses! Keep playing please keep sharing.

@Marian64 ‍ Love your sun! And, I , too, think sunglasses would be perfect! Please do share with us when he's done?

Off to work again with me...this is my "Thursday" for you weekday workers. Have a great Sunday and Happy 4th to all of us Americans!

The cupcakes were just vanilla and choc/vanilla but the sponge I made was chai flavoured - its a spiced tea.  You infuse the flavour into hot milk by soaking chai teabags for 30 mins or so then squeeze them out and add the flavoured milk to the cake mix.  There is an instant chai power which you can add as well for more flavour.  It makes quite a delicately flavoured cake - I think the flavour is cardamom.
