I want to do a few display cakes for my shop.  One of the designs I would like to do is the buttercream rosettes.   I know there is an icing that is not edible, made for dummy cakes, but if I use my buttercream, is there some type of lacquer or something I can spray on the cake that will not affect the look, but will help "keep" it ?

The standard is royal icing, is that an option for you?

I could probably do royal icing.  It just takes soooo much icing to do the rosettes.  lol  For some reason, my I had it in my brain that I had read somewhere about spraying it with lacquer, but it could have been my imagination.  I'm going to try the royal icing.  Thanks ElizabethsCakeCreations.
