Hi

I have been planning ambitious cakes for my little girl's 3rd birthday, but she decided to throw me into a spin. She wants a 'pink cake' but she doesn't want any frosting/ganache/fondant etc. I could bake a plain pink colored cake, but that would be no fun for a birthday surprise. Help needed with decoration ideas please. Thanks in advance!

Bake her a pink cake and decorate it with candy melts or cake ball mix pressed into molds. I realize that you'd be adding icing into the cake ball mixture, but will she?  Use various shades of pink and/or mix with white.  I think you can still make her smile.  How about decorating it with pink plastic strings of beads and perhaps ribbons and barrettes and then use them as favors for her guests.

You could do the pink ombre naked cake if you're feeling patient. Here's a link, I've seen a bunch of them and I have one coming up on my schedule soon: http://www.athomeinlove.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/ombre-naked-cake.jpg

Thank you for all the ideas. Do you happen to have pictures for any of these ideas? It will help me to better visualize them.

there's a lot of these -- could combine with a cake too -- I'd go with strawberry rather than use food color -- just a thought

That is the first time I have heard of a child who does not like frosting!! Wow!! To each his/her own. I love a bite of frosting with cake mixed in.

The watermelon cake was pretty awesome for people who would rather have fruits. I really loved that!!!

Haha, true! Unfortunately that's the case with my little one. I also liked the idea of an ombre cake.

Thanks to everyone for the tips,
