I am making mini cupcakes for my granddaughter's graduation ( PreK). How do I color the fondant gold? I have heard that some things are not edible, and non-toxic is not necessarily edible. These are for little kids and the first thing they will put in their mouth is most likely the toppers. What is safe to use? TIA

There are edible, FDA certified color metallic luster dusts that you can find at,,,,, etc.  Products need to be described as using FDA certified colors, edible.  If you don't have time to order something, Wilton makes a Gold Pearl Decorating dust.  It's not as shiny as some of the other edible metallic dusts, but it is readily available at Michaels or Joann and it's edible.

You could also spray them with edible metallic sprays made by Wilton, Duff, ChefMaster, or PME

Any product that is described as non-toxic is NOT edible and likely contains real metals of unknown origin.  Products made in countries other than the US are generally NOT considered edible in the US.
