My Sps System Legs Cracked!!! What Happened?

I made a 4" per, 4 tier cake. It was 12", 10", 8", and 6". 16" Masonite Board, 1/2" thick.
Here it is:

I took of the tiers after slicing that cake and everything was fine until I reached the 10" SPS plate. As soon as I took of the plate, I noticed a leg missing. The leg was stuck in the cake and half chipped off. Another leg was attached to the plate, but chipped. If you noticed on the right side in this picture above the cake is slightly lower (second to last tier). This has never happened to me. Was the cake too heavy ?
I've had the SPS legs crack on me before but nothing happened to the cake. It might be from the weight of the other tiers or you might be putting too much weight on it when you stick them in?
I noticed right off that that tier was leaning just a bit. I have not used SPS - talk to (I think it's) customeczar.
