I want to make "pinata" cupcakes for Cinco de Mayo, but the most convincing paper mache decorating ideas I've seen use dyed coconut and no one in my family likes coconut! I've been trying to brainstorm the best substitute and I think the best I've got would be to use 3-4 colors vertically striped into a single piping bag with a #233 grass tip. But I'm not sure if the tiny holes will mash the colors together too much and ruin the effect. Has anyone tried this? Or have any other ideas?

Too funny! I found that too and actually set up a calendar reminder to try those next year! Not enough time to track down the cutter I'm afraid.

Those cookies are cute........fondant used here but you can do buttercream for a similar effect, pipe each color like ruffle layers. kwim

I saw these the last time I was at the cake supply store. They come in different colors. Looks like  shredded coconut but its edible paper.
