I'm going to be flying to see my best friend in June, and she has begged me to make her a purple cake while I'm there.  She has no decorating supplies at all, so I'll have to take all of mine.  I am planning on checking the suitcase with all the supplies in it, but I wonder what will happen when they put it through the machine.  I'm most concerned about my cake leveler, my metal spatulas, my cake tips and my gel colors.

Has anyone else taken their decorating supplies on a plane, and if so, what were your experiences?

Thank you all  :)

If you check everything there shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure to put all the colors in a ziplock bag in case the pressure in the luggage compartment is low.

Not sure about hand luggage but in the suitcase it's no problem. I travelled with knives and and even once with an electric saw and didn't have problems at all.
