I am making my daughter a birthday cake with fondant covering it all. But the recipes I had for the cake and butter cream just didnt work out. Does anyone have a good recipe that with hold up fondant well
it will be a 6" and 8"
Any cake recipe should work well. Do you prefer to bake from a mix or scratch? Not sure what the problem was you had so it's hard to help you. It might have been that you did not roll the fondant thin enough (it should be about 1/4" thick). Here is a recipe for the cake you could use: http://www.cakecentral.com/recipe/7445/the-original-wasc-cake-recipe
And for the b'creamm icing try this one: http://www.cakecentral.com/recipe/56745/2-of-everything-icing
Using those recipe you should be able to cover the cake with fondant just fine.
