I have someone who wants me to make a pot leaf cake. She wants a big marijuana leaf smoking a joint laying flatly on the top tier of the cake. I usually work with gumpaste and buttercream my cakes smooth. Can I use gumpaste and lay this on the top tier and then they peel it off when they cut it? Or is that just a bad idea?

I generally do not work with fondant and have never made it. Its a small amount and I do not want to buy a big fondant container of premade for this little but but make gumpaste regularly homemade and know I can do it with gumpaste just worried about the actual cutting and serving issue and if its okay if they just peel off the top.

What would you do?

You are fine using gumpaste and they can peel it off before serving.
