What Do I Use On Fondant To Make It Look Like Its Smeared With Ash Or Dirt

im making a fireman themed cake for a retiring fire chief and i want the jacket to look like its smeared with soot....not sure what to use to achieve that effect...

you could use black powdered food color or black cocoa --

i get my black cocoa from king arthur but both those ^^^ are amazon so y'know maybe you can work and order up to free shipping --that's always fun -- and i'm sure your local cake deco store has the black powdered food color too

read my mind, 8.  I was gonna suggest black powdered food color.  Love powder colors in general!

Thanks ladies :D.... i live in a small town where we only have two small grocery stores so thanks so much for the link to order off amazon....I ended up using regular cocoa which worked pretty well, more like dirt than soot which was ok :D The guy who i made it for still enjoyed it :D
