Hello decorators:

Any idea how to get the net effect seen on the bottom border of this cake?

*I don't have a clay extruder or sugar veil*5638c54dd0f6d.jpeg

Was thinking royal icing but don't know if it would be brittle. Especially for the horizontal stripes on the blue border.

Ideas anyone?

pipe it -- get cash register tape* and fold it to create a level mark for each white horizontal stripe -- probably start with the tallest mark then the next one down and the last -- and just pipe it onto the blue then do the long tall ones -- and if you use royal icing you can fudge out any bloopers and erase joins with a wet paint brush and just practice up a bit -- no worries

* thank you toba garrett

 You can use an extruder and make them from Fondant.
