Hi All,

I am making this cake this weekend (see below), and I am wondering how to create the blood drops at the bottom of the cake / dagger (see 2nd pic)?? Is it red icing or fondant or red food coloring mixed with corn syrup?? How would you guys create this effect?

Also in the 1st pic, is the black smudge on the cake (where the top half of the dagger is) just black edible marker rubbed on?

Any tips would be much appreciated. TIA

You could pipe some red royal icing or (easier) candy melts, then brush some corn syrup on it when it dries to make it shiny.

Or even just roll out some pieces of fondant into little teardrops and do the corn syrup on it.

Thanks! I'll try the fondant. Do I need to melt the corn syrup before brushing it over the fondant?

Also, i'm assuming the fondant should be dry before I brush on the corn syrup, or does it not matter?

It doesn't really matter. I'd just paint it on. It will stay sticky but dry eventually.
