Hello fellow bakers,

I'm pretty new to the baking/pastry world, about a year or so into it, and I've been searching here and there for a good solid icing recipe. I am looking for something that is good for piping and is fairly sweet. I want to stay away from buttercreams because I keep getting a buttery or oily taste. I have tried good ol' egg white icing but mine's never stable enough to hold together for long, even in the fridge. All ideas welcome! Get creative (:

Indydebi's buttercream is SO perfect.

It should pop up in the recipe section of the site if you search her name.

Its a very sturdy, sweet, shortening based crusting buttercream that adapts to many flavors and uses.  It is perfect for piping and holds up in heat and it tastes really good too.....light and NOT greasy like many shortening based icings can

I also LOVE SMB.  I love the simplicity of it.   Here is a really easy, non traditional way of making it.

@Enthusiast~~First, where are you located?  In the USA, or somewhere else in the world?

What do YOU mean when you say "buttercream"?   There are many different types of buttercream,

Crusting

Non-crusting

American buttercream

IMBC Italian Meringue buttercream

SMBC Swiss Meringue buttercream
