I am using a double thickness foam core board that has a black paper coating. It looks nice enough the way it is but I'm afraid the paper will soak up the oil from the buttercream and not look so pretty. I'm out of fanci foil and I don't want to use fondant. What are some other ideas? The store is 20 miles away :(

When i cover my boards with paper, I oil the paper, then wipe it off with a towel. It makes the paper look nice, and helps keep it clean because messes and spills wipe right off of if. I imagine you could do the same thing with your board.

I sometimes cover my board with royal icing and then I sprinkle coarse sugar (which can easily be colored).
