I am still knew with this while baking thing.  I really enjoy it but I seem to always have the same question. What is the right frosting for covering a cake with fondant. I have used the Wilton frosting and I have used buttercream. When I cover the cake it seems to get all mushy and slopping and then the fondant starts getting to wet and does this while elephant skin thing. So my question is based o  why this keeps happening. What's the best frosting for using fondant?

Most frostings work. The key is to have a cold cake (filled and iced). I leave mine in the fridge overnight before putting fondant.

I am going to take your advice. But I was told not to put the cakes in the fridge because of moisture and how that affects the fondant. But my next fondant cake I am going to try your advice. Thank you MKC!
