What is the best way to get this even looking metallic tier?  I have tried alcohol/extract + gold dust brushed, but it doesn't look even as in this photo.  What are people doing?    https://www.pinterest.com/pin/330733166361491861/

oh that baby has air brushed written  all over it. good job of it to, but the darker areas make me think they used a bottom syphon airbrush, with pulsed air.  i would say three to four layers of luster dust mixed with vodka, because everclear would dry faster and not leave dark swirls. it is a beautiful cake.  if you dont have an air brush machine, you can achieve a look close to that with a luster dust everclear mixture applied with a sponge brush, make sure to drag the sponge, with no pressure or it will bubble up and leave lots of dark spots. hope this helps you out.

So I found and bought AmeriColor Gold Sheen Airbrush color and also Gold Glaze (not sure who makes it). I also got some sponges and sponge brush.  Going to try your suggestions Tesso.  Also want to try doing some faux finish...
