I have a request for a star shaped cake that will serve 50. Only problem is i have no idea how big the cake will have to be in oder to accommodate this. I found a 12in star pan but cant find serving sizes for it. Any help would be amazing.

This pan? Wilton makes these pans for "one cake mix", so 5-6 cups batter. 24 servings. (Like one box mix makes 24 cupcakes). It depends on your recipe.  You can bake two of them, with 2 box mixes, torte each one in half, and have 4 layers of cake. Ice in between and you got a big cake. I bet it will be taller than 4".
