Hi, I have been asked to bake a wedding cake in January. I maybe using a different stove because the wedding is quite a distance from my home and I am a little nervous about traveling with a cake that far (about 1 1/2 hour drive). The person that offered the use of their oven said that it is powered by propane gas. Is there a difference in temperature or time between propane gas, regular gas ovens or electric ovens. I personally have an electric oven and so far everything receipe I have used is about the same in time of baking.
Gas ovens are notorious for uneven baking because the back of the oven is always hotter than the front.
The trick is to bake your cake in the center of the oven and rotate it halfway through baking time.
Bake your cake at the same tempurature you normally would, and for the same amount of time.
The only difference you should be aware of, is some gas ovens have "marks" 1 -10, not shown in degrees so here is a chart that will show you how to set the over to the correct temp: Fahrenheit (°F) Celsius (°C) Gas Number Oven Terms 225 °F 110 °C 1/4 Very Cool 250 °F 130 °C 1/2 Very Slow 275 °F 140 °C 1 Very Slow 300 °F 150 °C 2 Slow 325 °F 170 °C 3 Slow 350 °F 177 °C 4 Moderate 375 °F 190 °C 5 Moderate 400 °F 200 °C 6 Moderately Hot 425 °F 220 °C 7 Hot 450 °F 230 °C 8 Hot 475 °F 245 °C 9 Hot 500 °F 260 °C 10 Extremely Hot 550 °F 290 °C 10 Broiling

Do you have any tips for traveling with cakes for a distance?
Why not bake the cake at your house let it cool crumb coat it and then put it on the plates that your going to use for the wedding and then decorate it at the other house... Make your frosting at home and such and just take it all with you to the other house... This way your not going to stress your self out...
