I want to do something different other than a slab with some flowers around the edges!!! He was a Pharmacist!! Any ideas??
What about a pill box with pills made from fondant with #12 tip falling out?
It's my Mom's 80th b'day in March also. I'm going to have to take all my cake-making/decorating stuff on a plane to UK. That should be fun!
How about making a pill bottle either 3d out of round cakes or 2d out of half round? You could make a MMF prescription, or maybe some BCT of other Pharmacist items. Or maybe make a Pharmacist coat using the Tshirt pan or cut it from a sheet cake.
Can't wait to see it.
i like the prescription idea -- great for writing a cute message. you could even figure out how to do it in "pharmacist shorthand" by using abbreviations or latin terms:

If being a pharamcist was his life a cake as the other suggested would be cool. But an idea of a cake I was going to do for my mom's 60th was to make 3 tieir square cake and on each side add pictures of her/his life from baby until now. His time as a pharmist would be represnented in this if you had pic's. I am sentemential. I think the celebration of 80 years of life will be a wonderful occasion for you and your family. I have a picture somewhere if you are interested
Have fun,
Michelle
I think a cake representing the different decades would be cool, either four tiers with two decades on each or two tiers with a different decade on each side. for each decade you could write the years or decades and have something that represents each or something that he did in those years, ie wedding belles for when he got married, baby for when he had his children, graduation cap for his grad from college etc. These things could be done in icing, fondant or chocolate.
Can't wait to see what you choose to do, this is a great cake with so many ways to go and he has given you so many years to work ideas from !!!
How about a conicle cake that resembles the cup thing to grind medicinals - I don't know what it's called, but it's the symbol or graphic always used to depict pharmacy.
