If your kids (or you) are coughing and can't sleep, generously slather vicks vaporub on the soles of their feet, you may want to put socks on just to keep the sheets from getting messy, but its your choice. I'm not sure how it works but its like magic, the coughing stops. If its a bad cold you may have to reapply during the night, but at least you and the kids will get some sleep.

HTH someone! Von

Great tip! My mother (and I continued it with my kids) put Vicks on my chest, and it helped a lot with congestion...never would have thought to put it on the bottom of our feet. It makes sense though.
Thanks. Janice

Wow, on your feet? My daugther has had a terrible cough at night. We have been giving her some cold medicine and throat coat tea (which works great)

Will mentholatum work instead? I never liked vicks as well.

I believe that's the main ingredient in vicks so its worth a try. But the Vicks works great!

I have never heard of putting it on feet. I can only use vicks on one of my DD's. The other 2 have really sensitive skin and it breaks them out in welts. I wonder if it would be ok on their feet or if they'd still break out?

Well, I've heard that there's a section of your foot that's related to each part of your body, a concept used in reflexology, so maybe that's why, but I'm not sure. But I can tell you that its like magic!
