I need to make a space themed cake for an 8 year old boy. He is super serious into astronaughts and space exploration and all that jazz. So my ideas were either to do a 3d space shuttle or possibly use the sports ball pan to do a moon and then put some images on top (like an astronaught or something.) What sounds better? Or are there any other cool ideas? I think I want to stay away from anything too cartoonish...
I like the idea with the sports ball, I thought maybe do the sports ball as sun and make all the planets out of fondant/ gumpaste and use wires to have them coming out and round. I dont know if you get me but take a look at this model

LOL! I also have to do a "space cake" for my 8 year od daughter in about 2 weeks. After much debate, we've decided on using the sports ball to make a 3D Earth and I'm attaching a sugarpaste space shuttle flying out of it.
Other ideas we'd thrown around were:
Saturn, complete with melted chocolate rings.
The complete solar system but 2D instead of 3D
A spaceship.
Good luck!
