Looking for an alternative to using eggs for cupcakes or cake. Any suggestions? Thank you

I've heard of substituting a 1/4 cup of applesauce for each egg required in a recipe.  I've never tried this though, so I'm not sure how it turns out.

I make this cupcake, recipe by Isa M, it's freaking wonderful! I use regular cocoa not dutch. I also make her vanilla, but I add an extra tbsp. of canola to that one.
