Thanks for the link, it's fantastic.
Wow! was all I could say; just Wow!
She's definitely a talent!
That is my friend Debbie. She lives about 20 minutes from me. So talented and as sweet as can be. How did you happen to find her website? I will have to let her know, she will be pleased with the positive comments here at CC.
ShirleyW, have you invited her on over? We would love to know how she accomplishes such beautiful works of art.
BTW, could someone please explain something to me? When did an armadillo become a symbol of a groom for a groom's cake? I've heard of it before but have no idea where or why this tradition was started. Anyone?
I believe the Armadillo Grooms cake came into play with the movie Steel Magnolia's. They had one on there and it was Red Velvet, so when it was cut into, it looked as if it were bleeding. Kind of gross if you think about it though.
Maybe they worked for Nabisco or something? How funny...
Gorgeous cakes. All these air brushed cakes makes me think I should hint to people that I want an airbrush set for my birthday.
thanks knox- those are aaammmaazing!!!
yet another bookmark-
hsd-i agree i so want an airbrush -but i am no way near that talented
knox, thanx for the heads up on this woman's talent. I wish I were as artistic as she is, but I will have to be content with my own version of "realism" .. LOL .. can't draw to save my life!
These cakes are great. I need to get an airbrush set. What do you think she made the eyes on those dogs out of? They looked so real.
She said fondant. But what'd she put on it to make that shiny "glaze" glassy look?
Talented, but a little twisted. I find the animals disturbing, too realistic.
But, what an artist.
nglez, you shouldn't even be looking at those cakes - shame on you.
unleased, I haven't seen you in a while, good to see you.
Those cakes are just awesome. I'd love to know how she makes those eyes so real looking. Some people are just so artistic. I could never hold a candle to these cakes! Thanks for sharing the link.
I would be happy to tell Debbie about CC, but she is so busy she doesn't get to post much on the other cake forum. As to exactly how she makes such realistic eyes, I'm not sure she is willing to share that since it really is her trademark in doing sculpted cakes. I know she uses her little dog Pepino as a model for most of her dog cakes.
On the Armadillo grooms cakes? I had heard of them long before Steel Magnolias came out. I just think that film caused a soaring of people wanting them, especially for southern weddings.
Oh I would love to order one of the dog cakes from her. I wonder if she ships her cakes????
I think she has posted here before. I remember seeing the Oscar cake when I did a search. Not sure it was the same one but if not someone did a good copy of it.
I have to go look for her web site now and see if she will ship a cake to So. Cal. I've never seen a better dog cake! I love them.
I thought the eyes were beautiful. I was thinking maybe extra Crisco, or Karo, or piping gel. I can understand her wanting to keep her trade secret.
BTW, thanks jenncowin and ShirleyW for answering my query about the armadillo cake. Hmmm....something to research on the internet when I get a free moment (I'll put it on my calendar for 2024 when my youngest child graduates High School!).
The rat cake---wow---and---ewww.
Thanks for the link...very entertaining.
ok....that rat cake and the dog cakes i dont like...but other than that the other stuff is cool.....
again....rat and dog cakes.....i DONT think so
I must be weird because I have no problem eating rat cake Gee, that sounds really bad but it's just cake. I just really appreciate art and I love sweets so I have no shame whatsoever - lol. Her cakes are absolutely incredible...... like nothing I have ever seen and I do think they rival Duff's in terms of being realistic and not looking like cake. Of course, I still love him. Here is the link to her website where she talks about price and flavors...not sure if anyone was interested but I got a kick out of it: http://debbiedoescakes.net
*** Be aware that there are loud sounds on her site...I didn't realize I had my speakers set to 'high' and it was late last night when I checked it out and it scared the living heck out me
I've seen her work before and love it! Her dog cakes are awesome! And she crazy thing is that she does most of her cakes in buttercream!!!!!!
Rather Interesting :/.... But she is talented!!!
Wow those boobies are a little too realistic - they even have veins... it looks like!
I like the cupcakes w/ the big dog heads. But it's funny- I think the more realistic the cake - if it's an animal or baby or even the pregnant belly -it seems creepy to cut into it. Maybe it's just me but I can't imagine making a dog cake for a child and then mommy goes and cuts it's head off and hacks it up to serve... and that boston terrier on like page 8 or something looks like it's about to get up and give you a lick.... VERY realistic. Anyway, I definitely wouldn't want to do a cake like that for children. And cutting into a realistic baby and eating it is really creepy to me.... and I love the baby belly cakes but then my mom said "what about when you cut into them"? I guess maybe I'm thinking too much but it kinda creeps me out.
The girl definitely has some talent though!!!
Wow...amazing work!!!! Although some were a little too realistic for me....
The music on her website is AWFUL!!!!!! That needs to change-gets very annoying!! But I do LOVE her talent!
Just wanted to tell everyone i e-mailed her to tell her how great I thought the cakes were.... and asked if other people thought it was creepy how realistic the dog cakes were.... she said she's had a few people tell her no one wanted to cut the cake b/c they liked it so much - but she said the ones that find it creepy just don't order the dog cakes. She also said she comes here every now and then but I think hasn't officially "registered" as a member. Just thought I'd let you all know! She was really nice!
Her cakes are so realistic!! I'm very freaked out over the rat & dog cakes. Looks like they're dead rats too....gross! I couldn't imagine eating a replica of my dog even if it is "just cake".
