Homemade Vanilla Extract?

Hi, does anyone make their own vanilla extract I'm looking for any advices I have never tried it before? and how do I know the correct amount or percentage of vodka to use?

Oh and yes, I've made it.  By the time you buy the vanilla beans you can just purchase high quality extract.

thank you for your reply. the ingredients on labels of vanilla extract say water. but all the recepies use just pure vodka. so is this ok? I don't need to add water

AThe vodka works as a preservative. I make my own mint extract as it's not available here. Just crushed up the leafs, stuck them in a glad and filled it up with vodka until leafs are covered. Don't do that with vanilla since I make vanilla sugar which is fine for me. If I make vanilla cake or vanilla smbc I use it. Every now and then I put new vanilla beans in the glass, even"empty" ones after using it for deserts f.e. The aroma is still strong enough to flavor the caster sugar.
