Hi all!  I'm new to making cakes!  I made a 6 inch smash cake covered and decorated using only whipped buttercream.  It only has been refrigerated.  How long does it need to sit out to thaw for eating?  Thanks in advance!

ANot sure what a "smash cake" is, but buttercream, even whipped, won't take long to become soft enough to cut. Especially since it has only been refrigerated. 15 min perhaps, maybe not even that.

If its refrigerated it doesn't need to thaw.  Only frozen things need to thaw.

And it's not necessary to refrigerate a cake with buttercream on it.

A smash cake is for a very young childs birthday.  It's for the child to stick their hands/face into it.  Usually a photo op, although the child does manage to get some into his/her mouth.

Thanks y'all!  I just didn't want the cake to be cold.  I was hoping it would be room temperature for the 1 year old digging into it  for photos :).  The buttercream has heavy whipping cream in it so I wasn't sure how long that would be good at room temp.

There's not enough whipping cream in the frosting to have any effect.  The sugar preserves the bc.
