AWould I need to cover the Styrofoam with buttercream as if it was a cake?

I think it needs the buttercream to stick to - I am not sure how you would get the fondant to stick to the styrofoam.

Yes, you need to brush your styrofoam either with water, piping gel or a very thick coat of buttercream for the fondant to stick.

AOk and do I need to put a cake board stuck to the Styrofoam on the bottom or the styrofoam touches the cake im sorry I have a lot of questions just trying to figure it out

I would put fondant on both sides of the lid. Anyone standing to the side of the table will see the underside of it, and then the Styrofoam isn't touching the cake.

By the way, I meant THIN coat of buttercream, not THICK.
