Yeah that is similar to a salted nut roll candy bar.

caramel iced white or yellow cake then rolled in chopped salted peanuts -- works for me -- but i would prefer a bit stiffer caramel-- a little chewier to imitate the chewiness of the candy -- y'know maybe a butter pecan type cake would be good too -- add little more interest -- a rum cake would rock my world ;) -- maybe a disc of chewier caramel but still easily bite-able sitting under a creamier caramel icing --

great idea caramel nut roll cupcake!

Never thought of caramel icing.  That would work with a white cake.  What about nuts in the cake or would that me to much??

AI think nuts in the cake batter is a good idea -- I tell you what would be a tremendous flavor enhancer and it might seem odd at first -- dates -- dates chopped really fine into the cake batter -- would be amazing and I mean chopped so fine you hardly notice them -- geez this is making me hungry!

Sorry senior moment..lol  I was debating if I should make spreadable caramel or a caramel buttercream.  I have never made rum cake maybe give it a try.  Do you just use your standard buttercream for frosting with the rum??  Mine has an almond flavor to it.

i make a bundt cake usually and use a glaze -- but i've made layer cake with it and used regular buttercream
