I am making my nieces christening cake and was wondering if I need to dirty ice a mud cake?

I will be using fondant on the cake. When I made my brothers weeding cake I used the same cake recipe and didn't dirty ice I held the fondant down with alcohol.

Any one know what I should do this time?
