Does Type Of Sugar Effect Cakes??

Hi yall, 


I ran out of my regular granulated sugar last night so I had to opt for using a slightly coarser sugar (in granule size).
Cake came out nicely but I noticed that it didn't rise as much as it normally does. 


Is it because I used larger sugar granules?
