It's kind of hard to give you small little local type bakeries but we do have a ton of super trendy bakeries.

Charm City Cake (from Ace of Cakes) opened up a location in Hollywood on Santa Monica Blvd.  The original Sprinkles Cupcakes location is on Santa Monica as well.

Outside of those touristy two, the majority of the others are big chain places (Georgetown, Magnolia, SusieCakes, Crumbs, Frosted, and other cutesy named places that are slipping my mind)

I would do Sprinkles for sure, mainly because of the history.  That store single handedly sparked this massive cake/cupcake fad that we have today.  Feelings regarding that are mixed on this particular forum (because of the market over saturation we have nowadays), but still a neat place.

Best place is Sweet Lady Jane on Melrose. They make delicious cakes, all IMBC, fresh fruit and pure talent.

Good coffee too!!
