AHey yall! I have a spongebob cake to make for the weekend that has a ton of colors on it. A friend suggested I make the shapes and then paint them instead of trying to make so many different color pieces of fondant and gumpaste. I played around with a piece of coral and a jelly fish but it doesn't look so great lol has anyone tried this method?

I made this silicone mold of an eagles head from a fridge magnet. Then painted the fondant with the yellow, black & brown food coloring plus alcohol.

But that's only for small details.  I'd color small bits of fondant for larger items like you're making.

Yeah, stick to making colored fondant for now. I have quite a bit of experience painting fondant, and unless the design called for a painted look for the whole cake, I wouldn't mix effects like that.
